Thanks for your interest in donating to The Community Closet!

Yes! The free store is stocked with new and gently-used donations from community members and others in the area. 

Occasionally we are in need of certain types of donations, or we are out of space and have to suspend donations. More information can be found on our Facebook page (@HarrisburgCommunityCloset). 

Our goal at The Community Closet is to provide quality items to everyone in the community! We ask that:
• New and gently-used clothing should be clean and free of stains, tears, excessive pilling, and excessively cracked graphics.
• Shoes should be in wearable shape and not excessively dirty or worn.
• Non-clothing items should be in good working order. Items should not be missing excessive amounts of pieces/parts. 

Donations may be made in person during our open hours - Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you would like to make a donation and are unable to come during open hours, please contact us! We would be happy to arrange a different drop-off time. 

Please do not leave donations outside the store or Harrisburg Baptist Church. The Community Closet is run by a small group of volunteers, and they do not come to the store every day. Donations left outside may be ruined by the elements and/or critters, and may have to be thrown away. If you would like to make a donation and are unable to come during open hours, please contact us! We would be happy to arrange a different drop-off time. 

Below are lists of items we do and do not accept. This is not a comprehensive list, and we may change it at any time. All donations are accepted at the discretion of The Community Closet’s volunteers. If we have a family in need of specific items, we may accept donations normally not accepted for that particular family. This is done on a case-by-case basis. 

• Clothing (all styles and sizes) 

• Shoes (all styles and sizes)
• Home decor
• Seasonal decorations 

• Baby items (diapers, strollers, linens, etc.)
• Linens (sheets, towels)
• Health and hygiene items
• Clothing accessories (jewelry, purses, belts, scarves, etc.) 

• Toys and books 

• Used undergarments (Exception: bras in good condition)
• Large furniture (We do not have space for any furniture larger than a coffee table.) 

• Records, cassette tapes, VHS tapes, CDs, DVDs 

• Partially-used makeup and other hygiene items
• Large appliances (including microwaves)
• Mattresses (infant and adult)
• Computers, laptops, cellphones
• Cribs, car seats
